Thirty years in the culture. Behind the decks, behind the desk, behind the artists.
I started as a DJ and event organiser in Zaandam at sixteen, at a time when hip-hop in this town had to be built by hand: rooms, stages, crews, audiences. From the AMMO nights, The Jump Off, Leefhiphop and Hiphop KO to the Hiphopcore nights and festivals in the Zaantheater, the City Jams and hundreds of showcases, releases and community events, I have spent those years working with talent: putting people on stage and putting the culture on the map.
In 2006 the studio became the centre of the work. What began as recording young talent in my own space grew into a full practice as producer and artist developer: writing, creative directing, coaching and managing, from local talent to artists who went on to the biggest national stages and beyond. The method that came out of it, the person before the product, is still the core of everything I do.
In 2008 I gave that method a name. ZOLARSEM: our lifestyle and wellbeing united in one conscious mindstate. From it came Stichting ZSAlliance, the youth sport project that became football club FC Zaanstad, and my management company Apsu Agency.
Today I run a private practice for artist development, coaching and consultancy in Zaandam. Thirty years of entertainment, community work, studio hours and organisations built from zero, now applied one-on-one, peer to peer, to artists and to talents in any field who are ready to do the work.

Living in a children's shelter, I saw Yo! MTV Raps on television. Hip-hop found me before I found it.

Deejaying for the first time at a friend's house. The start of a decade on the turntables.
Deejaying at countless local gigs and house parties in and around Zaandam.

Started organising my own nights: The AMMO, a hip-hop, soul and funk open night, together with DJ Rob and DJ Bishop.

Volunteer at Stichting Straathoekwerk, organising events for the youth of Zaandam: Hofwijk Games, block parties, sport and music festivals and clean-your-block days.

Organising a new talent night: The Jump Off, open mic nights for upcoming emcees.

Health issues lead to a deep dive into natural nutrition. Knowledge that later became a big part of my everyday lifestyle.
Youth days for young people from Zaandam Kogerveld, built on getting fit and staying fit. One Friday a week at first, after a year also Saturday and Sunday. The city provided the gym and gave me the key and the trust.

Talent contest in P3, Purmerend, running from February to November each year. Organiser, and for the first time artist developer for the contestants.

First project as a producer: eight emcees, with me as DJ and co-producer. Leefhiphop, De Kade, 31 December 2008: DSI Bel, Menna, De Heilige Cirkel, Brett Spitt and LINSTR on one bill.

Linsteez · FounderThirty-five years later: artist development, coaching & mentorship and consultancies under one roof. This story.
Three ways to work with me. One standard.
Development is the umbrella for everything I do one-on-one: artist development for those building a career in music, coaching and mentorship for talents in any field who are ready to change, and consultancies for one sharp question that needs a straight answer. Different doors, same room: private, honest, built on more than three decades inside the culture.
Choose what fits. Everything starts with a conversation.

"The right counsel at the right moment is worth more than ten years of trying."
From talent to artist.
Artist development since 2008. Talent gets you noticed; it rarely gets you taken seriously. That step asks for more than skill alone. It asks for personal clarity, strategic direction and a visual identity that holds up under scrutiny. This trajectory brings all of it together, in private, a few artists at a time.
The work goes deeper than the stage. At the core of the trajectory lies private counseling and coaching for mental and spiritual fitness. Before the strategy, before the image, there is the person: how you carry pressure, how you deal with setbacks and attention, how you stay grounded when things move fast. In one-on-one sessions we train the inner side of the craft, from mindset and discipline to rest, reflection and even healthy food. An artist who is not well cannot grow; an artist who is, becomes unstoppable.
Personal guidance for those already on their way. Discreet, focused, without noise, built on more than three decades inside the culture. Sessions take place in private, in Zaandam or online. There are no off-the-shelf packages; the form follows the person.
Expect honest counsel over pretty words, and access to a network of artists, stages and makers that is not for sale.
Not only for artists. For anyone with talent and the will to change.
Talent shows up in many rooms: on a pitch, in a dance studio, behind a camera, in front of a growing audience, in a business that is starting to move. The pressure is the same everywhere. Expectation, attention, setbacks, people who want something from you. Most talents train their skill for years and their mind for no time at all. That is where the road gets stuck, not in the work but in the head.
This is private coaching for athletes, dancers, creators, influencers, founders, and for anyone who feels that something has to change and is ready to do the work. One-on-one, in confidence, with someone who has stood inside the culture since 1991 and has seen what pressure does to potential. We look at how you handle attention and rejection, how you protect your energy, how you make decisions when everything moves fast, and how you keep your own voice when everyone has an opinion about it.
Mental fitness here is practical, not mystical. Discipline and rest. Focus and reflection. Sleep, food, movement, silence. A small set of habits, built one at a time, that hold when the schedule gets heavy and the stakes get real. The goal is not to feel better for an afternoon; the goal is a result you can measure in your own life.
This asks something of you. Honesty, with me and with yourself, and the willingness to let go of what no longer works. If that is you, we start with a conversation. Sessions are private, in Zaandam or online, and nothing said leaves the room.
Coaching and mentorship are not a substitute for psychological or medical care. If you are in crisis, contact your GP or 113 (113.nl) first.
Thirty years of insight, applied to your situation.
Some artists do not need a full trajectory. They need one honest look from someone who has seen the whole picture: the stage, the studio, the business, the people. A consultancy is exactly that. One session, or a short series, focused on one question you cannot answer alone.
Insight and strategy first. Where do you actually stand, what is working, what is noise, and what should the next twelve months look like. Release planning, positioning, the choice between a feature and a solo run, when to hold back and when to push. Decisions that shape a career are rarely about talent; they are about timing and clarity.
A&R and creative direction. A straight opinion on your music, your visuals and your story before they go out into the world. Which track leads, which stays in the vault, what the cover should say, how the whole body of work reads as one signature. I listen the way a label, a booker or a curator listens, and I tell you what they will think before they think it.
Advice on the business side. Bookings and fees, contracts and splits, agencies, management, distribution and the deals that look good on paper but cost you later. Plus access, where it fits, to a network of artists, stages and makers that has grown over three decades and is not for sale.
Consultancies are private, in Zaandam or online. Come with a real question. Leave with a direction.
The scene will tell you who you are before you know it yourself: a genre, a look, a number. If you have no answer of your own, you become whatever gets booked. Knowing your roots, your limits and your reasons is the ground everything else stands on. Without it, every yes is somebody else's.
Nobody is waiting for you. Stages fall through, tracks get ignored, people who promised disappear. Determination is what remains when the excitement is gone: the decision to keep going, taken once and repeated every week. Talent opens a door; determination is what walks through when it closes again.
One strong release makes you interesting. Ten make you real. The scene rewards those who keep showing up: same standard, same voice, whether the room holds fifty people or five hundred. Consistency turns a moment into a name, and a name into trust.
Drive is the hunger that gets you into the studio when nobody asked. It is not loudness or hustle for its own sake; it is direction with energy behind it. The artists who last carry a fire that does not depend on applause, and know how to keep it burning without burning out.
Youth development through culture, for organisations that want results.
Since 2008 I have designed and delivered youth programmes in Zaandam under Stichting ZSAlliance, aimed at young people up to 27 who are at risk of disengaging from school, work or society. The approach is built on hip-hop culture as the entry point and on personal development as the outcome. It is practical, measurable and rooted in the neighbourhood.
Recording, writing and producing as a way to learn focus, craft and finishing what you start.
Cover art, photography and film as a second creative language and a route into vocational skills.
Weekly cooking sessions on the link between food, energy and mental health.
Attendance, punctuality and responsibility as non-negotiable parts of every track.
Norms, values and self-respect: how you present yourself, how you communicate, how you treat others and what you expect in return. Self-respect first, self-confidence follows.
Football and training through FC Zaanstad and the ZSAcademy, on the pitch and in the hall.
Fifteen years of continuous programmes at the Hiphop Tempel and in the districts of Zaandam, with partners including the municipality of Zaanstad, Stichting Welsaen, VSB Fonds, Fonds Cultuurparticipatie and Jongeren Impuls Zaanstad.
Hundreds of participants, from one-off workshops to multi-year talent trajectories. Alumni who moved on to national stages, and at least as many who moved on to education, employment and a stable place in their community.
Recognised training company through Apsu Agency, so participants can complete accredited internships within the programme.
Programme design and delivery for municipalities, youth services, schools and community centres. Workshops and trajectories that can run in your own space or in the studio.
Coaching and mentoring of individual young people, and of the youth workers who guide them.
Thirty years of experience in the culture, a network that opens doors, and a method that starts with the person before the product.
Artwork, photography, videography, graphic design and creative design, from concept to final piece.
In 2013 I founded STR13: a company of creatives who join forces to make art together, built to offer a different perspective in the current art world. Here, the message takes center stage: every piece we produce collectively carries it.
The future is for those who want to translate their thoughts into art. My focus is on making art that supports each individual in getting the art form they truly need.
